As the state’s peak representative body for the Jewish community, the JBD plays a central role in:

  • Advocacy: Representing Jewish interests to government, law enforcement, media, and key institutions.
  • Combating Antisemitism: Monitoring, reporting, and acting on antisemitism across NSW.
  • Community Leadership: Ensuring Jewish voices are heard where decisions are made.
  • Education & Engagement: Strengthening understanding of Jewish life, culture, and history within both the Jewish community and broader society.

But beyond the work we do, your membership is a statement of unity and commitment – especially during times that test our resilience as a community.

With your support, we:

  • Hosted 14 major events and collaborated on countless roundtables, workshops and community meetings.
  • Brought together more than 35,000 participants throughout the year, including:
  • Over 18,000 who attended the Light Over Darkness: NSW Night of Unity following the tragedy at Bondi Beach.
  • Around 12,000 who gathered in solidarity on October 7.
  • More than 1,000 who joined us for Shoah remembrance events.
  • Approximately 2,000 who participated online in community safety briefings.
  • Provided direct support to over 440 individuals and families who experienced antisemitism, ensuring they had guidance and advocacy when it mattered most.
  • Strengthened community connections across NSW, travelling more than 2,500 kilometres – from Mullumbimby to Scone to Newcastle – to engage directly with more than five regional Jewish communities.

These achievements reflect a community that shows up, stands strong, and looks after one another – and your membership makes that possible.

In addition, your membership unlocks many benefits and allows you to contribute to the work we do by:

  • Stay informed through regular updates, briefings, and newsletters.
  • Receive invitations to member-only events and engagements.
  • Vote in Deputy Elections.
  • Stand as a Deputy candidate and, if elected:
  • Vote on motions that guide our work.
  • Elect the Board of Directors.
  • Shape the vision, direction, and priorities of the JBD.
